Water Tank Refurbishment
Project :- Isle of Wight School ( Polypropylene Tank Lining )
Over the last few years Environmental Fabrications have refurbished a large number of
water tanks on the IOW, at various schools and council buildings. The water tank
above was one of around six tanks at the council offices in Newport.Three engineers attended site at 8am and
commenced draining, cleaning and lining of the six water tanks. All six water tanks were completed, tested and back
in service by 5.30pm.
This is a good example of the rapid installation time of the Polypropylene Tank Lining System, and the quality end
product. Many types of tank can be flexible lined, including, sectional tanks, one piece galvanised tanks, leaking
grp tanks and cooling tower sumps.
Water Tank Refurbishment
Project :- Padley and Venables ( Epoxy Tank Coating )
EF were asked if we could repair a leaking process water tank at the above site. On arrival, we
were told the process tank held a mixture of water and a special annealing chemical. This chemical was extremely
expensive and almost two thirds of the tanks contents had leaked out over a two day period, ceasing production. We
attended site two days later to commence the inspection and repair of the process water tank. Upon close
inspection, a hole around the size of a 5p piece was found 12” from the base of the tank. A mechanical repair was
undertaken, and due to the severe corrosion, a three coat epoxy tank coating was applied to the water tank
surfaces.
Within 4 days EF had the tank refilled and back in service. Our engineers left site, leaving probably our happiest
customer to date.
EF Stock a wide range of water tank coatings , including solvent based and solvent free. Our epoxy coating are used
to refurbish a wide range of water tanks, including, process water tanks, sprinkler tanks and water tanks where the
Polypropylene Lining System is not suitable.
Water Tank Refurbishment
Project :- Pulrose Power Station ( Epoxy Tank Coating )
EF carried out its largest water tank epoxy coating project to date. The above project was to
convert a heavy oil storage tank, to process water storage. The vessel had been drained and left empty for a number
of years, resulting in the internal surfaces of the tank being covered with a layor of rust.
Our engineers grit blasted the roof, walls and base of the tank, to prepare the surfaces for the epoxy coating. A
two coat, solvent free epoxy coating was applied to the water tanks internal surfaces. After 5 weeks work, 6 tons
of grit blasting aggregate and 500kg of epoxy tank coating, the tank was refilled with over a million gallons of
fresh water.
EF stock a number of surface tolerant epoxy tank coatings, for use when the water tanks internal surfaces are only
mildly corroded. These coatings are suitable where grit blasting of a water tanks surfaces is not suitable.
Water Tank Replacement
Project :- Washington Leisure Centre
EF carried out the replacement of an 8` x 4` x 8` sectional water tank, with a new 5000ltr
sectional grp tank. Unlike most water tank replacement projects, our engineers were able to build a new sectional
tank adjacent to the old sectional water tank.
On completion of the build and test filling of the new tank, existing pipework services were switched to the new
water tank. A chlorination was carried out, and the old water storage tank was removed to create additional storage
space.

Project:- Snaith Salad Growers ( External Coating of 2 Water Tanks )

EF received an enquiry from a local salad grower, we were asked if it would be possible to
carryout the external tank relining of two cold water tanks. During the initial
survey it was noted that there were two tanks, one 44' x 16' x 12' sectional water tank and one circular
cold water tank. On close inspection, severe corrosion was found on the
roof of both water tanks and a water tank repair would be needed. Severe corrosion was also found in areas
around the walls of each tank, with a number of areas requiring repairs.
Both water tanks were in close proximity of local stables and concern was raised over contamination of hay with
paint chippings. EF constructed a 5m high mesh screen around the water tank enclosure to prevent any paint
contamination during tank relining works. Both water tanks were blasted and a number of water tank repairs were
carried out to the roofs of both water tanks.
On completion of the tank repair and preparation stages, a three coat polyurethane relining system was applied to
both tanks. EF were asked if it was possible to use a colour which would blend into the surrounding landscape. A
grass green polyurethane water tank coating was sourced and the result was in the above photos. The contamination
protection screen was removed and the water tank area was cleaned. Site were advised that the internal surfaces of
both water tanks were poor and water tank liners may be required in the
future.
Both water
tanks were refurbished over a three week period and both the customer and stable owner were more than happy with
the end result.
